The Washington Demon boys and girls golf teams are on the links for the first time this season today.

The Washington boys were Southeast Conference team champions a season ago. Dalton Myers took the individual conference title last year and was sectional runner-up to qualify for districts. Washington brings back three of their top four from a season ago, led by Jacob Van Osdol and his 38 average per nine holes. Joining Van Osdol are Dalton Myers with 40 average per nine holes, Brock Sobaski at 41 per nine holes and Brady Knutson at 45 per nine holes a season ago.  The Demons had a 160 average per nine holes.

Mount Pleasant was a state tournament team qualifier last year. The Panthers had a team average of 164 per nine holes. Mount Pleasant lost three of their top four scorers to graduation. They return Trace White and his 40 average per nine holes as the top score from a year ago. The Washington boys tee off at 4p.m. at the Mount Pleasant Golf and Country Club.

The Washington girls are coming off of a season that saw them qualify for the state tournament as a team. The Demons finished third in the state overall, led by Sarah Nacos who brought home her third consecutive individual state title, besting the rest of the field by 23 shots. Washington returns every member of last year’s team, led by Nacos and her state best 37 average per nine holes. Also back are Allison Vogel, Megan Strabala, Carly Burlingame, and Emily Waite. Joining the Demon girls at today’s tournament are Burlington, Fairfield, Mount Pleasant, Burlington Notre Dame and the Chiefs. The Washington girls tee off at 10:30 this morning and continue play all day at the Elks Course in Keokuk.
