Spring cleanup for the City of Washington will be held April 16-19.

The annual event gives residents a chance to clean out their homes and garages. Items will be picked up on your regular garbage day and anything that is put out one week or more in advance will be subject to a fine. Requirements include all loose items must be in a cardboard box, materials should be in distinct piles, there is a 100 pound limit per household on carpet and construction materials, and all recyclable materials should be in separate piles for paper, glass, plastic, metal and cardboard.

Items that require a $20 sticker from City Hall include appliances like refrigerators, air conditioners, and microwaves. A $6 sticker is needed for sofas, desks, mattresses, and other bulky items. Waste oil, concrete, bricks, paint, household chemicals, batteries and tires will not be picked up.
