The Winfield Community Development Group is $32,000 away from getting a new pool.

The group has been raising funds for the Rick Rodgers Community Pool to replace the former pool that was owned by the Twin Lakes Country Club. WCDG has a meeting with the Enhance Iowa Board Community Attraction & Tourism grant committee on May 9, and their goal is to have the remaining $32,000 raised by then so the committee will award them the last-dollar-in $250,000 grant.

WCDG is asking for one time or monthly pledge donations. Mayor Chris Finnell shares how a monthly contribution can be an affordable option, “Which is kind of a neat way of doing it because it’s hard for the working class people to come up with you know $500, $1,000, some number all at once but $20 a month for the next three years it’s not a lot. It’s one pizza a month that you might do without and they’re also able to help out with the swimming pool.”

Finnell says the community has been hit hard with the pool fundraising efforts and he thanks the residents and the volunteers for their work. Donations are tax-deductible, you can donate online here. WCDG and Twin Lakes Country Club are hosting their final brunch fundraiser this Sunday from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.
