The Washington Demon and Winfield-Mt. Union boys golf teams hit the links on Thursday to open their respective state tournaments.

The Demons are at state at the Lakeside Golf Course in Fort Dodge for the first time since 2012. Washington qualified for the meet with a third place finish at districts in Oskaloosa, shooting a 319, led by Dalton Myers round of 76. On the year, Washington has a team 18-hole average of 320, ninth best in Iowa regardless of class. The Demons are led by Jacob Van Osdol and Myers with matching 79 scoring averages per 18-holes. Other scoring averages for the Demons include Brock Sobaski at 80, Brady Knutson 81, Caleb Tanner 95 and Mitchell Driscoll 96.

Winfield-Mt. Union opens the 1A tournament Thursday at Westwood Golf Course in Newton. The Wolves qualified for state as the district runners-up at Pleasant Valley in Iowa City last week with a team round of 343, led by district champion, and defending state champ Kaleb Hagge with an even par 72. The Wolves finished third in the state a year ago as a team. On the season WMU team average of 332 per 18-holes led by Kaleb Hagge with his 74 average, eighth in the state regardless of class. Other scoring averages for the Wolves include Nolan Ross 81, Kash Rossiter 90, Jarod Kadel 92, Graham Hagge 94 and Noah Freeman 99. Action continues for the Demons and Wolves at State Thursday and Friday.
