Evans Field was packed with track athletes for Thursday’s Class 3A state qualifier meet in Mount Pleasant.

The Washington boys finished in third place as a team with 88 points, Mount Pleasant won the meet with 229 points. The top two finishes in each event automatically qualified for the state meet. Ethan Hunt punched his ticket to Des Moines with a second place finish in the 400. The Washington 4×800 team of Justin Simmering, Kiowa Keith, Brennan and Evan Horak will join him after finishing second. The Washington sprint medley team of Mario Tapia, Tanner Murphy, Sawyer Whisler and Hunt is headed to Des Moines and the Demon shuttle hurdle team of Mario Tapia, Hunt, Lincoln Kleese and Ben Schiefer are state bound. Other top finishes for the Demons included Cade Hennigan third in the 110 hurdles and the 4×100 team of Tapia, Murphy, Spencer Sotelo and Sawyer Whisler third.

The Washington girls were seventh with 73 points. Mount Pleasant won the team title with 155.5 points. The Demons had one champion on the night with Hannah Anderson winning the long jump and qualifying for state with a leap of 16’10.75″. She will be joined in Des Moines by teammate Jenah Greiner who was second in the same event. The Washington 4×100 team of Leah Marek, Isabel Bailey, Anderson and Greiner are state bound after a second place finish and so is the 4×200 team of Marek, Bailey, Telleen and Greiner. Hannah Anderson also competed in the 200 taking third. The final, official list of state qualifying events, including performance qualifiers will be released Friday afternoon.
