Readers of all ages are encouraged to get involved in the summer reading programs at the Wellman-Scofield Library.

The library has several events planned throughout the summer for kids and adults, and prizes for reading during the program. The kids’ summer reading program rolls off with a skating party on June 8th from 1-3 p.m. at the Wellman Skating Rink and will conclude with a picnic at North Park on July 31st. Speaker events include Absolute Science, summer safety with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, PAWS & More, and a makerspace. Adult-oriented events include Fashions to Die For and Genealogy 101.

Library Director Carol Wilkins shares why Wellman residents should take part in the program, “Just to keep up their reading, to have some fun over the summer. We love having the kids come in, we love planning this and getting everything organized. We just want them to have a fun summer, something to remember. We’ve got lots of things to give away, that seems to encourage kids to read and it will help them not lose that summer slide in their reading.”

The summer reading program is free to attend and there is no deadline to register. The library is kicking off the summer with a puzzles and pop party this Thursday (5/31) from 1-2:30 p.m.
