It’s a busy week for the Highland baseball team with the Huskies set to suit up for action four times.

Highland split their first two contests, dropping a road game 7-5 to Mediapolis Tuesday and knocking off West Liberty Wednesday 6-4. In their loss to the Bulldogs, the Huskies fell behind 2-0 after the first inning, but responded to tie things with single tallies in the second and third innings. After a Bulldog run in the bottom of the third, Highland took their first lead with a pair in their half of the fourth. Mediapolis had an answer in the fifth, scoring four times to put the game away. Trey Lasek went three for four at the plate for Highland, Jordan Sosa drove in two. Chase Schultz took the loss in relief, going two thirds of an inning, allowing six hits and four runs.

Highland bounced back Wednesday against West Liberty. The Comets took an early 2-0 lead, scoring twice in the first. Highland turned things on midway through the contest, with three in the fourth and two more in the fifth. The Highland bullpen and defense were able to make those runs stand up late. Brody Burton and Zack Lasek each drove in two. Trey Lasek got the win, going four innings, giving up four hits, two runs and striking out four. With the split, Highland is now 3-2 on the year, they travel to Pekin on Thursday.
