The No. 2 ranked Iowa Mennonite School soccer team begins their push for a state title in Des Moines Thursday when they face the No. 9 Des Moines Christian Lions.

IMS advanced to their first state tournament since 2000 on Saturday with a 3-0 win at No. 3 Solon. Iowa Mennonite enters today with an overall record of 18-1. On the season IMS is led by Louis Etienne with 17 goals, most in the Southeast Iowa Superconference. This week’s Hedge Above Lawncare Athlete of the Week Jacob Boller leads the team, Superconference and is 10th in class 1A with 11 assists. In goal, Blake Bontrager has made 66 saves and has recorded seven shut outs.

Des Moines Christian is 15-1 on the season. They advanced to state by beating No. 17 AHSTW, Avoca 5-0. On the season the Lions are led by the most high powered offense in the state with 121 goals in 16 matches. DMC has the state’s top scorer in Ben Webster, he leads Iowa regardless of class with 54 goals. His 34 assists are also best in the state regardless of class. In goal Josh Swanson has made 45 saves. The Lions are making their first trip to state since 2015.
