The No. 2 ranked Iowa Mennonite School boys soccer team made an emphatic statement Saturday, routing No. 3 Solon on their home turf at Spartan Stadium 3-0 to earn a trip to the state soccer tournament.

In a place where few visiting teams have success, IMS celebrated on the Spartans own field after punching their ticket to Des Moines for the first time in 18 years. In a game heard on KCII, IMS was aggressive early and it paid off as Jacob Boller muscled his way through the Solon defense and scored in the second minute to grab an early lead 1-0. Iowa Mennonite doubled that with a Louis Etienne goal in the 27th minute, they would hold that 2-0 lead at the half. Defenses dictated the action in the second half, but IMS put an exclamation point on the victory when Cole Ours found Cody Jones in the games final five minutes to make the score 3-0.

IMS now stands at 18-1 on the year, and will face No. 9 Des Moines Christian in the opening round of the state tournament on Thursday. KCII will have all of the action for you live on AM 1380, FM 102.5 and KCIIradio.com, beginning with the Washington HyVee pregame show at 11:30 and kickoff at noon from the Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines.
