The KCII Severe Weather Action Team responded Wednesdsay evening with live coverage of a severe thunderstorm warning and tornado warning for Washington County.

The storm warning spanned across Keokuk, Iowa, and Johnson Counties, as well. The thunderstorm warning began at 7:24 p.m. for northeastern Washington County and ended at 8:30 p.m. The tornado warning was issued at 7:28 p.m. and ended at 7:48 p.m. Washington County Emergency Management Coordinator Marissa Reisen told KCII News that rotation had been spotted and there was a large wall cloud, but there was no cloud to ground contact. Keota Police Officer Doug Conrad also said rotation was witnessed over Keota, but it passed eastward.

A telephone pole was blown down about two miles north of What Cheer in Keokuk County. Keokuk County Emergency Management Coordinator Larry Smith said one house in Rose Hill was struck by lightning. Hail three-quarters of an inch in diameter was reported by a trained weather spotter in Hills, where over an inch of rain fell. A house in Kalona was struck by lightning on C Avenue.

Five members of the KCII Severe Weather Action Team worked to bring you live coverage of the weather, and had the power gone off KCII would remain on air with emergency back up generators.
