Closures of state parks in southeast Iowa are causing campers to flock to Lake Darling State Park.

Ranger Zach Haworth says Lake Darling’s campgrounds typically fill up in the summer, but with Geode State Park and Lacey-Keosauqua State Park both closed for renovations this year, Lake Darling is looking to be busier than ever. Haworth shares how he feels about this summer, “Things are going very well, it’s shaping up to be an extremely busy summer kind of looking ahead at our cabins, they’ve filled up a whole lot over the course of the entire summer. There’s only a handful of openings that are still available so the cabins are shaping up to be busy. We have several events going on at the lodge including weddings and family reunions.”

The Friends of Lake Darling are looking for summer employees at the boathouse. To apply email a cover letter and resume to friendsoflakedarling@gmail.com or mail to Friends of Lake Darling P.O. Box 82 Brighton, IA 52540. Applicants must be 18 years old.
