Small nonfarm businesses in 15 Iowa counties have just under a month left to apply for federal disaster loans for economic injury.

According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, primary counties including Davis, Henry, Keokuk and Van Buren, while neighboring counties include Washington, Iowa, Jefferson, and Louisa, among others. The low-interest loans are to offset losses caused by the drought that began August 1, 2017. Small nonfarm businesses, agricultural cooperatives, small businesses in aquaculture, and most private nonprofit organizations may apply for Economic Injury Disaster Loans up to $2 million. The loans are to help meet working capital needs like fixed debts, payroll, and other bills. The interest rate is 3.305% for businesses and 2.5% for private nonprofits. The deadline to apply is June 4th.
