Residents cheered as holes-in-one were scored at the inaugural Main Street Masters: Charity Putt Putt Tournament in downtown Washington Friday night.

Twenty businesses took part with their own personalized holes as participants putted around downtown. Alysse Witthoft attended the tournament with her family, “I saw it advertised online and our family likes to do a lot of miniature golfing so it just kind of seemed like the perfect event for us.”

Witthoft’s four-year-old son Graham had this to say about mini golf, “Oh, it’s my favorite!” Graham shares why he likes mini golf, “It’s because you putt and you make it.”

Main Street Washington Board of Directors Vice President and volunteer Tim Elliott comments on the event, “I’m pleased beyond belief. Every hole sponsor has been extremely enthusiastic and without them this thing doesn’t happen. So the crowds are starting to come in and I see families and that’s what this is about, coming back [to] downtown and seeing what we have to offer here and enjoying our square.”

The tournament was a fundraiser to benefit Main Street Washington, a community and volunteer-based program that works to enhance the social, physical, and economic well-being of historic downtown Washington.
