The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team fell to the Mount Vernon Mustangs at Carr, Vincent, Gould Field in Kalona Friday night 12-2.

In a game heard on KCII, the Mustangs scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the first to take the early lead. The Golden Hawks got on the board in the second when eighth grader Rylee Vercande smacked a solo homer to left field to cut the Mustang lead in half. Mount Vernon answered with a run in the third and then put together a six run, 10 batter fourth inning to take control of the game and the win. Vercande led the Mid-Prairie offense, finishing three for three with an RBI and a run scored. Cassidy Rourke took the loss in the circle, going all seven innings, allowing 12 runs on 13 hits and striking out three. With the loss the Hawks fall to 0-3 on the season.
