A 22-year-old man is in custody after leading authorities on a multi-county chase Thursday.

According to the Jefferson County Attorney’s Office, at 2:11 p.m. Thursday a deputy attempted to pull over a pink Mazda in Batavia for no license plates. When emergency lights were activated, the driver of the Mazda, 22-year-old Ryan Lawrence Gillan of Ottumwa, accelerated, passed a vehicle on the street and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit took law enforcement through the west side of Jefferson County and into Wapello County, where it ended in Ottumwa.

Gillen was taken into custody by the Iowa State Patrol and taken to the Jefferson County Jail. He was charged with aggravated eluding, driving while barred, driving while revoked, reckless driving, speeding, and no registration. The passenger of the Mazda, who was not named, was taken into custody by the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office.

The Fairfield Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Ottumwa Police, Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, and the Wapello, Davis, and Van Buren Counties Sheriff’s Offices assisted.
