With the recent rainfall in Washington County, residents may still have a chance to find morel mushrooms this spring.

Washington County Conservation Executive Director Steve Anderson says he received many dismal reports on mushroom hunting this spring, which he attributes to dry conditions in the area. However, Anderson says there’s been a turn around in the past week, “I am hearing more and more positive reports, so I would encourage people to get out there and enjoy it, enjoy the hike and you have a decent chance at finding some bonus morels.”

Anderson expects the mushroom hunting season to end in the next couple weeks, so he encourages people to grasp this opportunity now while there’s moisture in the ground. Popular spots managed by Washington County Conservation to find morels are Brinton Timber, Fern Cliff, and Sockum Ridge.
