A RAGBRAI vendor ordinance was discussed by the Riverside City Council Monday.

The council had a first reading of the vendor ordinance that was copied directly from the RAGBRAI handbook. The ordinance states the booth permit fee will be $300 with a space of 20’ by 10’. It also states that all beverages will be sold in non-glass containers only. Anyone selling food or merchandise without a permit on July 27th will be considered a nuisance and emergency abatement may proceed, or the Riverside committee may allow the person or organization to immediately purchase a permit with cash only. Any violation of this ordinance is considered a simple misdemeanor punishable by a maximum fine of $500 or 30 days in jail. The provisions of the ordinance shall be effective from 5 a.m. until midnight on July 27. The city council will have a second reading of the ordinance on June 4th with the possibility of waiving the third reading and passing it into law.
