Motorists traveling on Highway 22 from Wellman to Kalona are advised of a road construction project beginning Wednesday.

According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, Fort Dodge Asphalt has been contracted for a micro-surfacing road project on Highway 22 from 6th Avenue in Wellman to Highway 1 in Kalona. The project will include full depth and partial depth patching and adding centerline rumble strips. DOT officials say micro-surfacing is done to help extend the life of the pavement quickly and cost-effectively. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in some locations with the assistance of flaggers and pilot cars. Weather permitting, work is expected to be completed in early July.
