A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Washington and Keokuk Counties Mother’s Day afternoon.

The National Weather Service issued the warning at 2:28 p.m. and it expired at 3 p.m. Heavy rain, lightning and thunder were witnessed across southern Washington County. According to Washington County Dispatch, North 2nd Avenue in Washington flooded and a vehicle stalled in the water, emergency crews assisted people out of the vehicle. Trained weather spotters saw pea-sized hail in Ainsworth and hail a quarter-inch in diameter in Sigourney. A wind gust in Washington at 2:15 p.m. was recorded at 27 miles per hour.
