The Southeast Iowa Superconference boys soccer tournament begins on Friday.

Top seed and undefeated Iowa Mennonite will face Highland in round one at Kalona. IMS is currently ranked No. 4 in class 1A in the latest poll from the Iowa Soccer Coaches Association following their 4-3 penalty kick win over No. 3 Williamsburg on Monday. On the season IMS is led by Isaiah Swantz with his Superconference best 12 goals. Jacob Boller leads IMS and the conference with seven assists. In goal, Blake Bontrager has 40 saves and four shut outs on the year. Highland enters play with a 1-10 overall record. The Huskies were last in action a week ago when they were beaten in Riverside by the Washington Demons 5-1. Cristian Arciga had Highland’s lone tally. On the year the Huskies are led by Jordan Sosa with four goals. In goal Cory Stewart leads the Highland defense with 96 saves. These two teams met earlier this season with IMS scoring a 10-0 mercy rule win.

Also playing at Kalona tonight are the three seed Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union Wildcats against the six seed Mediapolis Bulldogs. The Wildcats were last on the pitch Monday when they fell to Washington 1-0. On the year Columbus is led by Felix Solis with eight goals, third in the Superconference. He also leads the team with six assists. In goal Keagan Atkinson has 34 saves. Mediapolis comes in with a 4-8 overall record. They were last in action Tuesday when they beat Wapello 7-3. On the year the Bulldogs are led by Nathan Hine with four goals. Shane Yaley has made 136 saves on the year.

Winners of Friday’s matches move on to the tournament semifinals Saturday in Columbus Junction.
