Military honors were observed Monday at Washington High School for annual Memorial Day Services.

Michael York welcomed those in attendance, especially the seven World War II veterans sitting in the front row, “Ronald Reagan said, ‘In our observances of Memorial Day we honor the brave Americans who paid the highest price, they gave their lives for their commitment to the ideals of peace, freedom and justice. Our debt to them can only be repaid by our own recommitment to those same ideals.’ So I’m not honoring these people because they’re veterans, but as veterans, all these veterans who are here today, especially our World War II veterans, they’ve not paid the ultimate price for our freedom, but I want to thank them for their commitment to keep alive the memory of those who did pay the ultimate sacrifice for our country. So, thank you, folks, for being our example.”

American Legion Post 29 had a posting of the colors, the Star Spangled Banner was sung, the Gettysburg Address was read, and a rifle salute was given. The keynote address was given by Chaplain Captain Antonette Tom, a third generation veteran, and she shared stories of American military men and women who bravely made the ultimate sacrifice.
