The Washington Community Center was built 42 years ago and will be undergoing a stage project this summer with funding help from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation.

The grant will help replace theater rigging, which has surpassed its lifespan. Foundation president David Mitchell recently presented the grant, “The rigging replacement is a major project that will take approximately four weeks to complete and is going to start in August of this year. The Washington County Riverboat Foundation is going to contribute $100,000 to their $178,660 project.” The community center is the home of the Washington Community Theater and the stage has held HARP, high school, Y’s Men’s, and Community Theater shows, in addition to dance competitions, touring shows, and the annual county fair queen contest.
