It’s not too early for the girls of summer to hit the diamond in Washington.

Saturday, the Demon softball team hosts a set of scrimmages along with area schools Lone Tree and Mid-Prairie. Washington was 21-18 a year ago, hitting .300 as a team with an ERA of 3.54. The Demons will look to replace their leader at the plate Jessie Buchholz and her .426 average. The leading returner for Washington offensively is Morgan Brinning with her .388 average from last year. In the circle Washington returns their team leader Molly Sparks and her 15-8 record with a 3.15 ERA from a season ago.

Mid-Prairie was 12-24 last season, hitting .290 as a team with an ERA of 4.85. The Golden Hawks return slugger Kitty Conway for her junior season. Last year she hit .418 to lead the Hawks. In the circle Cassidy Rourke is back after working 187 innings a year ago with an 11-17 overall record and a 4.74 ERA.

Lone Tree was 4-17 last season. The Lady Lions hit .270 as a team with a collective 4.91 ERA. Abby Buckman did it all for the Lions a year ago, hitting .414 to lead the team in her freshman campaign and threw 130 innings in the circle with a 4-16 record and 4.43 ERA.
