A $9.1 million dollar project just got a big boost in funding with a $3.5 million grant from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation.

At the spring grant distribution event, the final and largest grant of the night went to the YMCA of Washington County. Association Director for the YMCA of Washington County Amy Schulte shares how the money will be used, “The grant will be going towards our new building facility in Washington. It’s a $9.1 million facility total project and this will put us at 86% of our project goal for fundraising, so we’re very excited.” The facility will be constructed at West 5th and D Avenue in Washington. Schulte shares what it felt like to receive the grant, “We just feel very blessed and honored. It’s just an amazing feeling.”

The new YMCA will be located at the City’s Wellness Park and construction is expected to begin this summer. The current facility is 95 years old and is deteriorating.
