The water and sewer rates for the City of Winfield are increasing.

The Winfield City Council approved increasing the monthly water rate from $15.50 to $17 for the first 1,000 gallons used, and for every 1,000 gallons used afterwards the charge of $4.50 increased to $5.50. The sewer rate will stay at $20 for the first 3,000 gallons used, and every 1,000 gallons used afterwards will be charged $5.50, a $1 increase. The water rate was last increased in 2004, and the sewer rate in 2007. Deputy City Clerk Lisa Rees says these increases were approved in part to account for upcoming sewer updates the city will be making to comply with the Department of Natural Resources.
