The opening day of the 2018 boys state golf tournament is in the books.

At Westwood Golf Course in Newton the Winfield-Mt. Union Wolves are fifth in the team race after the first day with their opening round score of 353. Harris-Lake Park is in first place with a score of 345. WMU was led by defending state champ Kaleb Hagge with his three-over-par 74, placing him second individually. Other scores for the Wolves include Nolan Ross and Jarod Kadel at 90, Noah Freeman with a 99, Jacob Kongable at 114 and Brady Lloyd 115.

The Washington Demons are seventh after their first day at state in Fort Dodge. The Demons shot 336 through their first 18. Central DeWitt is atop the leaderboard through the first round with their 300 team score. Washington was led on day one by Jacob Van Osdol and Dalton Myers each at 81. Other scores for the Demons include Brock Sobaski 86, Brady Knutson 88, Caleb Tanner 95 and Mitchell Driscoll 96. Action continues Friday for the both the Demons and the Wolves.
