Washington County’s unemployment rate dropped from April to May.

The rate went from about 2.3% of the population unemployed in the county in April to 2.0% in May. In May of 2017, 2.7% of Washington County was unemployed. Overall the State of Iowa’s unemployment rate dropped slightly from 2.8% to 2.7%. The state had 47,000 people unemployed in April and that figure fell by 1,000 people in May. All of Washington County’s contiguous counties either saw drops in unemployment rates or unchanged figures.
