Crews are preparing for the gym floor to be installed in the Kalona Community Center.

Kalona City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh updated the city council at their recent meeting on construction, “What you’re going to see when you go in the gym is all the hoops are up, all the standards are up for volleyball, the divider curtain is up. All of them are operational as far as the control panel, switches, so they can be raised, lowered, all that good stuff. The upper railing if it’s not finished when we get up there it’s probably 75-80% finished. They were supposed to be back this afternoon to finish but I didn’t get back in there to see if they did.”

Schlabaugh mentioned crews also working on other areas such as the concession stand and offices. They are also working on getting moisture out of the concrete in the mezzanine and the gym floor for the rubber surface to be installed, which is expected to come in July 2nd. The city council approved several pay applications for progress on the $5.3 million facility expected to be completed by August 10th.
