The Iowa Mennonite School baseball team dropped an extra innings contest Wednesday in Kalona against the Cardinal Comets 13-5.

IMS got on the board early with a single run in the third. Cardinal answered with a three run homer in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead. IMS got a single run in the sixth to get within 3-2 only to see Cardinal score twice more in the top of the seventh to go up 5-2. Down to their final three outs, IMS rallied again, scoring three times, including a Trevor Leyden two RBI hit to right to tie the game at five and send it to extra innings. Things stayed tied until the top of the 10th when the Comets broke through for eight runs to grab the win. Leyden led the IMS offense going two for four with three driven in. Kobe Borntrager took the loss in relief for IMS going two innings, giving up three runs, walking six and striking out one. IMS is now 6-5 on the year as they get ready for a Thursday doubleheader at Lone Tree.
