After winning five straight, the Washington Demon softball team took a sweep last night on the road in a double-header against Southeast Conference rival Keokuk.

Game one was all Keokuk from the start, with the Chiefs striking for four runs in the bottom of the first.  The Demons would get it back to within reach with three runs in the top of the fourth to make it 4-3, but the Chiefs answered with four runs of their own the very next half-inning to take an 8-3 lead.  The Chiefs would add some more insurance the next two innings, eventually taking an 11-4 win.

The Demons were led at the plate by Cara Linnenkamp, who went 2-3 with an RBI in the contest.  Molly Sparks took the loss in the circle, giving up nine runs (eight earned) on eight hits while striking out one and walking one.  Game two ended with a 9-2 Keokuk victory, completing the Chief sweep.  The Demons finish the season series with Keokuk at 1-3.

The Demons’ next action comes tonight when they welcome eighth-ranked Iowa City Regina into town for a game.  We’ll have coverage of that one on FM 106.1 KCII with the Washington HyVee Pregame Show at 6:30 and a 7:00 first pitch.
