The Washington Demon swept Iowa City Liberty on the road last night, in a double header that lasted over five and a half hours.

Game one was three hours and fifteen minutes alone, eventually going to ten innings before the Demons took the win 7-5. The Demons held a three-run lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning, but a series of walks and ground-outs allowed Liberty to strike for three runs and tie it up. Both teams had scoring threats in the eighth and ninth innings, but nobody could cross the plate. The Demons had two runners on and two outs in the top of the tenth when Luke Turner cracked a two-RBI double to score the game-winning runs.

He finished that game 4-5 at the plate with two RBI and a run scored.  Kole Hinrichsen got the start in game one, allowing two earned runs on six hits with six strikeouts on 5.1 innings pitched.

Game two was also long, with a lot of scoring to be had. All of the scoring came in isolated innings, with the Demons striking for seven in the fourth and four in the seventh. Liberty plated five runs in the fifth, but that’s all the offense they could muster, with the Demons picking up an 11-5 victory in regulation.

Cade Hennigan was the pitcher of record in that one, going 4.1 innings pitched and allowing two earned runs on three hits while striking out two. Brady Knutson led the way at the plate, going 3-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.

With the wins, Washington improves to 10-5 on the season.  They’ll do it again on Thursday when they travel to Fort Madison to take on the Bloodhounds.
