The Washington Demon softball team fell on the road last night at Williamsburg by a score of 4-1.

Raiders pitcher Nicole Zuber pitched outstandingly against Washington, giving up just one base-runner in four innings of work.  She was relieved going into the fifth inning, but came back in the top of the seventh to close it out.  She earned the win and the save in the game.

The Demons were held to just four hits as a team.  Morgan Brinning led the way at the plate with a double and the team’s lone RBI.  Alexa Mitchell pitched well, giving up four runs on eight hits while striking out four and walking two.

Despite the loss, head coach Ben Obermann was pleased overall with his team’s performance.

“Overall, it was a well-played game on both sides.  Williamsburg’s a hot team; that’s their thirteenth win in a row.  But like I was telling our girls, this is better than playing somebody at the end of the year that’s 0-28 or whatever.  This is a good test for us; a good measuring stick to prepare us for next week and also for regional play,” Obermann said.

“Our offensive approaches were okay.  Obviously we didn’t light the world on fire offensively, but we weren’t swinging at bad pitches, and later in the game we got back to hitting the ball hard.  But some days it’s just not going to happen for you offensively, and unfortunately, tonight we were held down.”

The Demons will finish off the regular season on Monday and Tuesday.  Come Thursday, they’ll head up to Oxford for round one of the playoffs against Clear Creek Amana.  The winner of that one will advance to play at Newton in round two.  We’ll have all postseason Demon softball games for you right here on KCII.
