A meeting will be held in Kalona next week to discuss a road construction project with the Iowa Department of Transportation.

According to the Iowa DOT they will be discussing proposed improvements to Highway 1 in Johnson County, and discuss right of way needs for the improvements. The proposed improvements include replacement of Highway 1 structures at Old Woman’s Creek, Old Man’s Creek, a small natural stream located 2.1 miles south of Johnson County Road F52, and a stream about half a mile north of County Road F52, and Old Man’s Creek overflow located nearly one mile south of F52. Transportation Planner Catherine Cutler says construction of the projects will be coordinated and staged to allow access to properties at all times and some stages will require detouring through traffic out of the project corridor. When needed, through traffic on Highway 1 would be detoured using Highways 218 and 22. The meeting will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. on June 26 at KCTC in Kalona.
