From tiniest fish to most fish caught, awards were given to participants who took part in the annual handicapped fishing day at Marr Park.

The Chicaqua chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America, Inc. has hosted this event for over 60 years, inviting mentally and physically challenged people of all ages to fish and have lunch. Participant Floyd Miller shares what all he caught Wednesday, “One, two, three, and one catfish, crappie, bluegill, turtle, two turtles, and I catch a whole bunch.”

Washington County Sheriff Jared Schneider presented award gift certificates to the fisherpeople, “For me it’s a fun day to get out of the office and get out here, and perfect weather today and enjoy the time at the pond with them while they are fishing and then having lunch with them afterwards. And it’s always a good time to see their reaction when they get their prizes.”

About 50 fish were caught from the group of around 80 participants and their caregivers. Christopher Marner says he caught a fish six inches long, and he won a prize, “I’m happy today.”

The event was free for all attendees, with fishing equipment and lunch provided for all.
