Highland and Columbus squared off last night in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference matchup last night, with the Huskies downing the Wildcats by twenty runs in five innings, 22-2.

The bats were on fire for Highland, with all but one of the starting nine knocking in at least one run.  Bill Laughlin and Brody Burton each led the way offensively, going 2-3 and 2-4 at the plate respectively with 4 RBI and two runs scored each.  Brady Hahn was also stellar with a perfect two-for-two day at the plate with 3 RBI and four runs scored.

On the other side, Columbus was held to two runs on three hits.  They were plagued by errors throughout, as only 12 of Highland’s 22 runs were earned by Wildcat pitchers.  Ryan Orr was a bright spot at the plate, going 1-2 with an RBI and a run scored.

Eighth-grader Chase Schultz was the pitcher of record for the Huskies, pitching all five innings and giving up just two runs, neither of which were earned, while striking out two.  Chance Colby got the start on the hill for the Wildcats, pitching four innings and allowing 12 runs, five earned, to cross the plate.

With the win, Highland improves to 5-4 on the season, while Columbus drops to 1-7.  Both teams will play again tonight, as Columbus welcomes Danville to town and Highland plays host to Cardinal.  Both games are set to start at 7:00.
