In a battle of KCII area teams Monday night the Highland and Iowa Mennonite School baseball teams split a Southeast Iowa Superconference doubleheader in Riverside.

IMS took game one 10-0 in five innings. IMS took an early 2-0 lead with single runs in each of the first two innings before breaking things open with a seven run third and finishing things with a single run in the fifth. Blake Bontrager was two for three with a double and two driven in. He also collected the win on the hill, giving up just one hit, walking one and striking out six. Luke Miller got the only hit for the Huskies while Cael Yeggy took the loss for Highland working two innings.

In the nightcap, Highland returned the favor with an 8-4 win. The Huskies scored single runs in the first three innings at the plate but still trailed IMS 4-3 after three frames. The Huskies blew things open with a four run fourth and added an insurance run in the fifth to seal the win. Highland was led by Cory Stewart with three RBI on a one for two night at the plate with a run scored. Chase Schultz got the win going four and a third innings, allowing two hits, four runs, walking five and striking out two. IMS got an RBI apiece from London Schrock, Reggie Borntrager and Trevor Leyden. Eli Ours took the loss, going four innings, giving up seven hits, seven runs, walking two and striking out one. IMS is now 5-4 on the year while Highland stands at 7-6.
