Keokuk County maintenance crews are working to repair county roads after recent heat-influenced blowups.

Keokuk County Engineer Andrew McGuire says seven pavement blowups occurred over the Memorial Day weekend when there were record-high temperatures, and crews went out and removed the loose debris and placed temporary patch material as a result of the buckling. The blowups were on V67, V5G, W15, and G13. McGuire says they are getting pricing on putting permanent patches on the roads, but he estimates it will cost $15,000 for the seven patches. Some of these blowups are on the RAGBRAI route, and McGuire says he hopes to have the patches completed before July 26.
