The Keokuk County Board of Supervisors has passed an ordinance for vendors selling goods during RAGBRAI this year.

This week the board voted 2-1 approving an ordinance on the first reading, waiving the second and third readings. Ordinance No. 47 states it is to assist county officials with control of public health and safety issues created by the infusion of a large number of people in the county. This ordinance will establish regulations and a permit structure for vendors in the unincorporated areas of Keokuk County on July 26 and 27. County Auditor Christy Bates says this ordinance will allow the sheriff’s office to enforce that vendors have both a state and county permit to sell goods in unincorporated areas. The county permit costs $800 for food, beverage, and non-food businesses, and $200 for non-profits. All vendors are also required to give a $100 cleanup deposit, which will be refunded if the vendor complies with the ordinance and the site is completely cleaned by July 28. Permits for all unincorporated areas must be purchased at Sigourney City Hall. To read the full ordinance click here.
