It’s not everyday you can watch wrestlers sparring while eating breakfast in downtown Keota, but it’s what you can expect when RAGBRAI rolls through town on July 27th.

Keota is the second stop on the route from Sigourney to Iowa City. City council member Mike Bender says the city is using this opportunity to put Keota on the map, “We’re going to have Central Empire Wrestling is going to be putting on a show, I believe the hours are from 8 a.m.-noon. They’re going to have 10 wrestling matches that will be located by The Roost here in Keota. We have a few beer gardens, Lagos Acres the golf course will have a beer garden. I believe they might have some live entertainment as well, and just to be able to see what other outside vendors can come into town and make it a positive experience.”

Bender says there are several non-profit groups and school organizations participating as vendors, from FFA and 4-H to speech and drama clubs, and several churches will be serving breakfast for riders. The city is charging $300 for commercial vendors and charging no fee for non-profits. Bender says the city wants to have as many vendors possible by not charging the non-profits, and in turn give greater motivation toward having RAGBRAI return to Keota in the future.
