Monday in Kalona No. 7 Iowa City Regina swept both ends of a River Valley Conference softball doubleheader from the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks, winning by 12-0 and 3-0 scores.

In a pair of games heard on AM and FM KCII, Regina started game one by sending 17 batters to the plate in an 11 run first inning. The Regals hammered out eight hits and took advantage of three Mid-Prairie miscues in the frame to build an 11-0 lead before the Hawks had their first swings of the night. The Regals would get one more run in the third to make the score 12-0. Mid-Prairie mustered just one hit against Regina starter Katie Bracken who collected the mercy rule shortened win.

In game two Regina again grabbed an early lead, scoring twice in the first and once in the second to jump out 3-0. The Golden Hawks put together a pair of good scoring chances against Bracken and the Regals in the second game but were unable to cash in as they were held to just one hit in the nightcap, a Kylee Kos single in the second.

With the losses the Golden Hawks fall to 3-11 on the year, they host No. 1 Durant Tuesday.
