Iowa’s longest running Ridiculous Day returns to the square in Washington this weekend.

The 71st annual Ridiculous Day is day three of the Summer Classic and starts at 9 a.m. with sidewalk sales. Washington Chamber of Commerce Event Coordinator Alisha Davis says there are new features this year, “Some new additions, like Mike Zahs is doing a county history tour, so you don’t want to miss out on that, just contact us to register for that. Saving Brinton will be showing down at the State Theatre at 10 a.m. Tickets are available at the theater, so we want to make sure and promote that because that is a great movie, if you haven’t seen it. We also have a photo booth, Washington State Bank is doing a photo booth, so all the kids that participate in the Ridiculous Day superhero and princess contest can get involved in that. And of course, we don’t want to forget about the ducks on the square.”

At noon there will be 1,000 plastic ducks in the fountain along with the emergency dive team members. The ducks will be tossed out to the crowd and each one has a business name written on the bottom. If you catch a duck, take it to that business to receive a $2 bill.

See the KCII Big Red Radio throughout the Summer Classic on the square. Registration for the superhero and princess contest starts at 9:30 at Dodici’s. The Optimist Club’s bike auction is at 10 a.m. The library is hosting a sale of books, music, and movies, as well as an art print auction with 12 different prints each day.

The events conclude in downtown with the Ridiculous Day Parade at 2 p.m. Flightline Live will then begin at 5 p.m. at the Washington Municipal Airport.
