The Sigourney high school softball team went 2-1 in tournament play in Eddyville this weekend, beating Centerville and Danville and losing to one of the top teams in the state in Eddyville-Blakesburg.

It was a battle of one-loss teams in game one of the day, with Eddyville-Blakesburg ultimately taking the win 6-3.  The three, four, and five hitters for the Savages each had an RBI and went a combined five of nine at the plate.  Jordan VanEe took the loss in the circle for Sigourney, going all seven innings and giving up six runs (two earned) on ten hits while striking out two.

Then the Savages would face off against Centerville, shutting them out 3-0.  Autum Barthelman let the way at the plate in that one, going three for three and driving two of the team’s three runs.  Madelynn Hornback was brilliant in the circle, throwing seven shutout innings.

They took the win in game three as well, beating Danville 7-4.  Jordan VanEe pitched another strong game, allowing four runs (one earned) on six hits and striking out seven in the full six innings pitched.  Summer Barthelman, Hannah Lucas, and Megan Stuhr had a strong showing at the top of the lineup, going a combined six for 12 with three RBI and five runs scored.

The outcome of the entire day is an improvement to an 11-2 record heading back into South Iowa Cedar League play.  They will kick off their four-game week with Montezuma at home tonight.
