Southeast and south-central Iowa have the driest soil conditions in Iowa at this time.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, topsoil moisture for the entire state is rated at 68% adequate and 25% surplus while subsoil moisture is at 10% short, 67% adequate and 20% surplus. In southeast Iowa for topsoil moisture only eight percent is surplus, 63% is adequate, 24% is short, and five percent is very short. For subsoil moisture in the southeast region 18% is very short, 53% is short, and 29% is adequate, there is no surplus at this time.
