Statewide Iowa’s farmers only had 2.1 days suitable for field work last week due to storms and heavy precipitation.

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig said, “The storms that have rolled across the state over the past couple of weeks have brought needed moisture to some areas, but unfortunately we have also seen significant flooding in other parts of the state. Many areas could use a few days of dry weather to allow fields to dry out so farmers can spray and have a chance to make hay.”

In southeast Iowa oats are ahead of the five-year average of 79% headed and currently 87% are headed. Across Iowa corn is rated at 24% excellent, 54% good, 15% fair, and four percent poor to very poor. Soybeans are rated at 20% excellent, 59% good, 17% fair, and four percent poor to very poor.
