Three people were taken by ambulance to the hospital from a wreck in Jefferson County Saturday morning.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, at 9:22 a.m. on Highway 34 near mile marker 214 a Chevrolet Equinox driven by 66-year-old Lorene Smith of Fairfield wrecked. The vehicle was westbound on the highway when it left the roadway onto the shoulder and then over corrected, entering the north ditch where it rolled and one passenger was ejected.

Smith was taken by ambulance to the Jefferson County Hospital. Also passengers 49-year-old Delorous Shirely of Mt. Pleasant and 46-year-old Elizabeth Gallegos of Fairfield were taken by ambulance to the Jefferson County Hospital.

The crash remains under investigation. Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Fairfield Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Fairfield Fire Department, and Midwest Ambulance.
