The company that will outfit Washington County with new emergency communications equipment has been selected.

RACOM was chosen by the communications commission. At Tuesday’s Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting supervisor Richard Young, who also serves as the county’s ambulance director, said it is needed soon because the current equipment “is getting on its last leg.” The county had received bids from two companies – RACOM and Motorola earlier this year. Those proposals were $5.8 million from RACOM and $7.5 million from Motorola, but there were options for upgrades and add-ons. The RACOM proposal included a 10-year projected maintenance plan with five tower sites. The communications commission is negotiating the final contract for the equipment and then a final cost will be known.
