There has been a changing of the guard at the Washington Public Library as the new director has assumed her role.

Bryna Walker is now the director, taking over for Debbie Stanton who moved out of state to be near family. Walker is originally from Estherville and is a former teacher and librarian, she shares what drew her to apply for the position, “I was on the library board in Victor and the library director there found out about the position and knew I was interested in transitioning to public librarianship. She told me about how to apply for the job. And it was the perfect time because my daughter was graduating. So, I applied and got the job.” Walker graduated with a Masters in Library and Information Science with K-12 Library Endorsement from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in December 2010.

She adds coming from a small town it has been great in the last week to see all of the foot traffic and record breaking attendance at some of the summer reading events – including about 300 people at the Blank Park Zoo presentation. Walker is relocating to Washington this summer.
