An Illinois man was arrested on multiple charges after a high speed pursuit ended outside Wapello.

According to the Wapello Police Department at about 5:35 p.m. Sunday, the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Dispatch Center contacted the Louisa County Sheriff’s Dispatch Center about a wanted subject headed northbound on Highway 61 from Burlington at a high rate of speed. Wapello Police located the driver coming into Wapello at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. A pursuit ensued and the vehicle was eventually stopped north of Wapello near the Iowa River Bridge. The driver, 30-year-old Shawn Cade of Rock Island, Illinois, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, reckless driving, speeding, no drivers license, unsafe passing on the right, and prohibited passing. Cade was taken to the Louisa County Jail, and has a warrant from Rock Island County on felony eluding. The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office, and Wapello ambulance service assisted with the incident.
