Washington School District is still looking for educators for the upcoming 2018-2019 school year, especially five special education roles.

At Wednesday’s school board meeting Superintendent Jeff Dicks explained they must serve special education students and some teachers may have to transfer positions to fill the openings. He also said there is a need for paraeducators throughout the district, “We have had conversations about the special ed situation and five openings, also on top of that we have 17 para openings district-wide. We have 13 interviews scheduled.” Dicks states the preschool position requires an AA, CDA or equivalent, while the other positions do not have specific requirements but must pass a background check and a high school diploma is preferred. The paraeducator jobs are full-time positions with the district. The board did approve hiring one new paraeducator and the transfer of another, but they tabled an involuntary transfer of one teacher.
