As RAGBRAI visits the City of Wellman July 27, the city will be using the day to honor an active community member who was lost earlier this year.

Sixty-five year-old Merlyn Yoder died in a farming accident on May 7th. Wellman has chosen to recognize July 27th as Merlyn Yoder Day as city council member Shannon McCain explains, “Merlyn was one of the very first people to step up and offer himself to help with RAGBRAI to do whatever we needed to have done. He made every meeting that we went to that included the ones we went to up over by Des Moines and spoke with the head of RAGBRAI. He was literally anything that we needed to have done he was willing to do he was always asking if there’s any more that he could do to help with that.”

McCain shares how the city will be honoring him, “We’re going to have some signs up also he was part of the volunteer fire department and the fire department will be having a booth there that day where you can take pictures in their attire that they use for fires and they’re going to have some stuff in there for him as well.”

The City of Wellman is taking online orders for RAGBRAI t-shirts until July 3rd. More information can be found here.
